Crow-Armstrong's solid defense and baserunning have made him a commodity, and the two sides still have time to hammer out a long-term contract.

In a shocking but encouraging move, the Chicago Cubs have offered a contract extension to their young center fielder, Pete Crow-Armstrong. The proposal by the Cubs, while not revealed in its entirety, is reported to be around $75 million, pending the exercise of the option years. This is a huge step towards tying down the talented player for the long term, although no deal has been signed yet. Fans and pundits are now waiting anxiously to see what happens next, speculating about how both parties will act.

Chicago Cubs offer Pete Crow-Armstrong an extension contract

On April 20, 2025, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported that the Cubs approached Pete Crow-Armstrong's representatives with an offer of a large contract extension. Although the overall value of the contract could be up to $75 million, this amount would be achieved only if all of the option years within the contract were exercised.
The agreement terms and the guaranteed amount have yet to be disclosed. Pete Crow-Armstrong, who has been a revelation since arriving with the Cubs, will be club-controlled in 2030, giving the Cubs plenty of time to make a trade to keep him in Chicago beyond that.

It stands to reason the Cubs would want to lock up the 23-year-old center fielder, especially with his good fielding and baserunning abilities. Although his hitting statistics have not been spectacular, his defense and baserunning speed make him a priceless member of the team.
The Cubs and Pete Crow-Armstrong's camp have not yet signed an agreement, leaving it uncertain if talks are still ongoing or if they are over.

Cub’s Pete Crow-Armstrong's performance and potential

Pete Crow-Armstrong (born March 25, 2002; Sherman Oaks, California) is one of the more popular faces within the Chicago Cubs organization. Banished with the 19th pick in the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets, Crow-Armstrong was selected by Chicago in a July trade that had shortstop Javier Baez and pitcher Trevor Williams transported to the Mets.
Through the trade, Crow-Armstrong found his way up the minor league ladder quickly. Pete Crow-Armstrong played in 123 games as a rookie with the Cubs in 2024, batting .237 with 10 home runs and 27 steals. He did not play offense spectacularly but defense wonderfully, with 14 Outs Above Average and 11 Defensive Runs Saved, and was among the best outfielders.
With a 2.7 fWAR, he was a bright prospect. While his offense needs to be developed further, his great defense and baserunning abilities make him worthwhile. The Cubs recognize the potential of his bat and are waiting for his offense to develop so he can be a cornerstone long-term player for the team.
