LeBron James has been in his solid form, defying his age as he has been unstoppable in creating more records to add to his resume. On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar became the first player in NBA history to surpass
50,000 combined points across the regular season and playoffs. The milestone came in classic LeBron fashion, right after a deep three-pointer in the opening quarter of the Lakers’ dominant 136-115 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. His new teammate,
Luka Doncic, did not hold anything back while showering praise for the Lakers legend.
Luka Doncic hails LeBron James after his 50,000 career points
Following the latest achievement of LeBron James, claiming the astonishing 50,000 career points, Luka Doncic hailed King James in a heartfelt message of appreciation.
“It’s amazing, watching him do this stuff at this age,” said Doncic, who contributed 30 points, 15 assists, and eight rebounds in the win. “It’s just unbelievable, that 50K points. I can’t even explain how insane that is. He might get to 70K. You never know,” he added.
James finished the game with 34 points, extending his career total to 50,033. His remarkable stat placed him over 6,000 points ahead of the second-place legend,
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. While Abdul-Jabbar’s 44,149 combined points once seemed an untouchable record, LeBron has shattered all expectations as he proved himself as one of the game’s greatest.
“I mean, that’s a lot of points,” James reflected after the game. “Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is where I’m from. Picking up the game when I was a little kid and having a love for the sport, and hoping that someday I’d be able to play at the highest level. I’ve been able to do that and really enjoy my career. So it’s definitely an honor. It’s pretty cool to see that.”
At 40 years old, James continues to perform at an elite level. Earlier on Tuesday, he was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month, making him the oldest recipient of the award. In February, he averaged 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists while leading the Lakers to a 9-2 record.
“Just not falling out of love with the process,” James said of his sustained excellence. “Continuing to fall in love with the process, that’s the hardest thing, every single year. You know it’s going to be a long season. It’s 82 games, 41 of them are on the road. It’s a lot of travel. And as you get older, it affects you even differently.”
