Margao: The brutal murder of 28-year-old Karishma Roy in Mungul on Wednesday night was triggered by frequent disputes over her alcohol consumption, police investigations have revealed. The deceased’s husband, Krishna Roy, 38, was arrested and charged with murder under Section 103 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to Fatorda police inspector Nathan de Almeida, Krishna fatally assaulted his wife with a wooden stick and belt on Wednesday evening. Police sources said the accused confessed during interrogation that he was angered by his wife's regular alcohol consumption, which led to the violent confrontation.
The autopsy report confirmed that Karishma died from a severe head injury caused by blunt force trauma, with multiple injuries across her body. The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy noted that all the injuries were fresh at the time of death. The police preserved various forensic evidence, including blood samples and weapons used in the crime, for further analysis.
The couple, originally from Kolkata, West Bengal, were residing in Mungul, Margao. Neighbours said they frequently heard arguments between the couple of late. Police sources said the accused warned his wife about her drinking habit for several months before the incident turned fatal. The accused worked as a carpenter, it is learnt.
On Thursday, Krishna was produced before the local court, which remanded him in seven days of police custody. The victim's body was handed over to the family for final rites after completion of the autopsy.
